Terms of Service
Effective date: August 24, 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Career Outcomes Guide (the "Service"), operated by Bigeconomics LLC ("we", "us", "our"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.
The Service
Career Outcomes Guide provides tools to explore earnings, occupation, and industry statistics by college major and occupation, derived from public U.S. government data, plus an optional career-interest assessment. Access is offered in tiers (anonymous preview, free account, and paid or institution-provided access).
Accounts
You must provide accurate information, keep your password secure, and are responsible for activity under your account. Accounts are for use by a single individual — you may not share your login credentials or otherwise allow someone else to access the Service through your account. Notify us promptly of any unauthorized use.
When you create an account, you are asked to affirmatively acknowledge these Terms and our Privacy Policy, and separately to acknowledge the restrictions on our tabulations set out under Intellectual property below. We record the date and time of both acknowledgments with your account.
Age requirements. The Service is not intended for children under 13. If you are 13–17 years old, a parent or legal guardian must create and control your account, accept these Terms, and be responsible for any payment on your behalf. By creating or maintaining an account for a user under 18, you represent that you are that parent or guardian, that you agree to these Terms — including Dispute Resolution and Limitation of Liability below — on your own behalf, and that you are responsible for that user's compliance with these Terms. If you are 18 or older, you may create and manage your own account.
Institutional access
If you sign up with a participating institution's email domain, your access is provided under that institution's arrangement with us and may change or end if that arrangement changes or ends. Today, institutional access is a lightweight benefit tied to your email domain, not a data-sharing arrangement — we do not receive rosters or student records from institutions, and nothing here should be read as a FERPA "school official" designation unless we've signed a separate written agreement saying so.
Paid subscriptions & billing
- Paid plans are billed through Stripe on the cycle shown at checkout (e.g. monthly or annual), and your card is charged at checkout — pricing is disclosed before you check out.
- 14-day money-back guarantee. If you're not satisfied within 14 days of your first payment, contact us for a full refund, no questions asked. Refunds are issued to the original payment method.
- Outside that 14-day window, payments are non-refundable for periods already started, except where required by law.
- You can cancel at any time through the customer portal or by contacting us; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Prices may change on renewal with reasonable notice.
- Failure to pay may result in suspension or downgrade of paid access.
Acceptable use
You agree not to: misuse or disrupt the Service; attempt to gain unauthorized access; scrape, crawl, bulk-download, cache, mirror, resell, sublicense, or redistribute the underlying data, tabulations, or content except as expressly permitted; reverse engineer the Service; use automated means to extract data beyond normal interactive use; use our data, tabulations, or output to train, fine-tune, or benchmark any machine-learning or AI model, or to build a product or service that competes with the Service; or use the Service to violate any law or third-party rights.
Data, accuracy & no advice
The statistics are derived from public datasets and are provided "as is" for informational purposes only. They are estimates, may contain errors or gaps, and are not financial, career, legal, tax, or educational advice. Decisions you make based on the Service are your own responsibility.
Intellectual property
The underlying government data is public and belongs to no one. But the Service itself — including our software, design, and our compiled and derived tabulations, scores, matches, rankings, and other analytical output — reflects our own methodology, selection, and analysis applied to that public data, and is owned by us or our licensors and protected by law as our proprietary work, independent of the public status of the underlying source data. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to view and use this output within the Service for your own personal or institutional use, subject to these Terms. You may not download, scrape, cache, republish, redistribute, or otherwise use our tabulations or other compiled data outside the Service without our express prior written permission.
Termination
- By you. You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time.
- By us, for cause. We may suspend or terminate your access immediately, without refund, if you violate these Terms (including the Acceptable Use or Intellectual Property sections above) or we reasonably believe it necessary to protect the Service or other users.
- By us, for convenience. We may also suspend or terminate any account at any time for any other reason, with notice where practical. If we do, we will refund the unused, prorated portion of your payment for the then-current billing period.
- Sections that by their nature should survive (e.g. intellectual property, disclaimers, dispute resolution, limitation of liability) survive termination.
Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold us harmless from any claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your breach of these Terms, your misuse of the Service, or your violation of any law or third-party right.
Disclaimers & limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from your use of or reliance on the Service. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us in the 30 days before the claim (prorated for annual or other multi-month plans), or, if you paid nothing in that period, a nominal amount.
Dispute resolution & arbitration
Please read this section carefully — it affects your legal rights.
Informal resolution first. Before filing a claim, contact us through our contact form and describe the dispute; we will try to resolve it informally within 30 days.
Binding arbitration. If we can't resolve a dispute informally, you and we agree that it will be resolved by binding individual arbitration under the American Arbitration Association's Consumer Arbitration Rules, rather than in court, except as set out below. The arbitration will be conducted in the state of Virginia, or remotely / by written submission where the Rules allow.
Opt out. You may decline this arbitration agreement by submitting a request through our contact form within 30 days of first accepting these Terms, stating that you opt out. If you do, any dispute between us will be resolved in court as described under Governing law below, not arbitration.
No class actions. You and we each agree to bring claims only in an individual capacity, and not as a plaintiff or class member in any purported class, collective, or representative proceeding. If this class-action waiver is found unenforceable as to a particular claim, that claim — and only that claim — will proceed in court instead of arbitration.
Carve-outs. Either party may instead bring an individual claim in small claims court if it qualifies. We may also seek injunctive or other equitable relief in court at any time to stop unauthorized use of the Service or our intellectual property.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. Material changes will be reflected in the effective date above and, where appropriate, communicated to you. Continued use after changes means you accept them.
Governing law
Except as the Dispute Resolution section above provides otherwise, these Terms are governed by the laws of the state of Virginia, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules.
