Privacy Policy

Career Outcomes Guide ("we", "us", the "Service") is operated by Bigeconomics LLC. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, and what choices you have. We keep it deliberately short and plain.

What we collect

Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and a password. Passwords are stored and verified by our authentication provider (Supabase); we never see your plaintext password.
Assessment responses. If you take our career-interest assessment, we collect your answers and the resulting interest scores and career matches. If you're signed in and choose to save your results, we store only your most recent assessment — retaking it replaces the prior result; we don't keep a history of every attempt.
Content you create. Saved views and similar preferences you choose to store.
Billing information (paid plans). Payments are processed by Stripe. Stripe collects and stores your card details directly — we do not store your full card number. We retain only limited billing metadata (e.g. subscription status, the customer ID Stripe assigns) needed to grant and manage your access.
Basic technical data. Standard server and error logs (e.g. IP address, browser type, pages requested, error diagnostics) generated when you use the Service. We use an error-monitoring service (Sentry) to detect and fix problems.

We do not knowingly collect student-identifying education records from schools, and we do not sell your information. See "Students & Schools" below for details specific to student users.

Children & minors

The Service is not intended for children under 13. If you are 13–17 years old, a parent or legal guardian must control your account and has agreed to this policy on your behalf, consistent with our Terms of Service. If we learn we've collected information from a child under 13 without appropriate consent, we will delete it.

How we use it

To create and secure your account and sign you in.
To provide the Service — including scoring your assessment and matching you to relevant careers and majors — and remember your preferences.
To process payments and grant the access your plan or institution entitles you to.
To monitor, debug, and improve reliability and performance.
To send you essential account and service messages. Because a free account is how you join our list, we may occasionally email you about the product; you can opt out of non-essential email at any time.

We do not use your data to build advertising profiles.

Students & Schools

Some of our users are high school or college students, and some sign up through a participating institution's email domain. We take student privacy seriously, whether or not a law specifically requires it of us:

We do not use student data for targeted advertising, and we don't build profiles of individual students for any purpose outside providing the Service.
We do not sell student data, ever.
Institutional access today is limited to automatically granting the tier your institution has arranged, based on your email domain — we do not receive class rosters, grades, or other education records from institutions, and we are not currently acting as a "school official" under FERPA. If that changes (for example, if we sign a data-sharing agreement with a specific institution), we'll handle any education records we receive under that agreement's terms, in addition to this policy.
You (or, for a minor, your parent/guardian) can request deletion of your account and data at any time — see "Your choices and rights" below.

Institutional (email-domain) access

If you sign up with an email address at a participating institution's domain (for example, a university that has an access agreement with us), we automatically associate your account with that institution to grant the access it has arranged. We share aggregate, non-identifying usage information with institutions; we do not sell or hand over your individual browsing activity.

Who we share it with

We share personal information only with service providers that help us run the Service, under contract and only as needed:

Supabase — authentication and database hosting.
Vercel — application hosting.
Stripe — payment processing (paid plans).
Sentry — error monitoring.
PostHog — product analytics (page views, feature usage). Signed-in usage is linked to your account by an internal ID and, if you signed up through an institution, that institution's name — never your email or name. Session replay (recording on-screen activity) is off by default.
Resend — delivers email you send us through our contact form.
Cloudflare (Turnstile) — verifies you're not a bot when you sign up, log in, or use our contact form.

We do not sell your personal information. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the Service and its users.

Cookies

We use essential cookies to keep you signed in (session/authentication), analytics cookies (PostHog) to understand how the Service is used, and a small number of functional cookies (e.g. remembering when you've dismissed a default state/sex filter, or a site-preview access cookie) to make the Service work as intended. We do not use advertising cookies.

If you're visiting from the EU, UK, Switzerland, or elsewhere in the EEA, the analytics cookie is off by default — nothing is captured until you accept the cookie banner shown on your first visit. Everyone else sees full analytics from the first pageview; there is no advertising or "Do Not Sell/Share" cookie on this site to opt out of either way. You can change your choice at any time by clearing your cookies for this site and revisiting.

Data sources

The statistics in the Service are derived from public federal labor and demographic data sources. These are population-level datasets and do not identify you. Figures are informational and are not financial, career, or educational advice.

Your choices and rights

Access / correction / deletion. You can request a copy of your account data, ask us to correct it, or delete your account. Contact us at the address below.
Region-specific rights. Depending on where you live (e.g. the EU/UK under GDPR, or California under CCPA/CPRA), you may have additional rights, including the right to access, delete, or restrict processing, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising them. We honor these requests.
Opt out of non-essential email via the unsubscribe link or by contacting us.

Data retention & security

We keep account data for as long as your account is active and as needed to comply with our legal obligations. We use industry-standard measures (encryption in transit, access controls) to protect your data, but no method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure. If we discover a breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you as required by applicable law.

Changes

We may update this policy. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you.
